Our UK-based team is here to support you — whether you have a question, need help with a check, or require urgent scam guidance.
I spent years on the front line at the FCA and Financial Ombudsman Service, working directly with over 5,000 UK consumers. I built ScamCheck UK so no one has to face a scam alone.
Read My Full StoryScamCheck UK was founded by Daniel Manu, a former FCA and FOS professional with direct regulatory experience handling thousands of UK consumer cases involving scams, fraud, and financial harm.
My career in financial services spans more than fifteen years across some of the UK’s most prominent regulated institutions, giving me first-hand insight into how consumer financial harm occurs and, more importantly, how it can be prevented.
Between August 2023 and January 2025, I worked as a Regulatory Supervisor within Consumer Supervision at the Financial Conduct Authority in London. In this role, I managed a high-volume caseload of complex consumer enquiries and regulated complaints involving investments, insurance, CONC-regulated credit, and scam referrals. I applied FCA Handbook provisions, including DISP and CONC, alongside Consumer Duty and vulnerability frameworks to ensure fair, balanced, and clearly reasoned outcomes for consumers.
A significant aspect of the role involved identifying indicators of consumer harm, financial crime risks, and scam activity, with cases escalated through the appropriate supervisory channels where necessary. I also contributed to the analysis of complaint and consumer contact trends that informed wider supervisory strategy within the FCA.
It was during this period, working daily with live UK scam cases, that I developed the concept behind ScamCheck UK, a platform designed to help ordinary people assess scam risk in real time using the same warning indicators and behavioural patterns I encountered professionally.
Prior to joining the FCA, I worked as an Insurance Adjudicator at the Financial Ombudsman Service between June and November 2022. Based in Canary Wharf, I specialised in escalated motor insurance complaints involving claims handling disputes, policy interpretation, non-disclosure, misrepresentation, and settlement disagreements.
The role required detailed evidence gathering, balanced decision-making, and the ability to explain complex regulatory and fairness considerations in plain, accessible language. All decisions needed to be robust, impartial, and consistent with FCA rules and DISP requirements.
Earlier in my career, I spent several years at Close Brothers Premium Finance in London. Between January 2016 and June 2019, I worked as a Complaints Handler managing regulated complaints end-to-end in line with FCA DISP requirements and Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) obligations. I conducted root cause analysis to identify recurring issues, contributed to reducing complaint-related risks, maintained regulatory complaint records, and supported FCA reporting and management information processes.
Prior to that, from January 2014 to January 2016, I worked as a Broker Support Associate, handling broker account queries, complaint resolution, account adjustments, and audit-support documentation across telephone and email channels.
My financial services career began at Premium Credit Limited in Epsom, where I worked from August 2008 to December 2013. Starting in customer service before progressing into a Client Services Executive role, I gained extensive experience in escalated query handling, complaint trend analysis, KYC processes, regulatory record-keeping, and management information reporting. This provided a strong operational and compliance foundation within consumer finance.
Taken together, this experience across frontline customer service, complaints handling, ombudsman adjudication, and FCA supervision forms the foundation on which ScamCheck UK was built.
Every feature, risk indicator, and piece of guidance within the platform is rooted in real-world exposure to how scams and financial harm affect UK consumers, and the practical steps that genuinely help protect them.
